Traditionally, engineered solutions have been the default approach to managing these challenges. Nature4Networks explores how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can provide sustainable, resilient alternatives tailored to the unique demands of Great Britain’s electricity networks.

NbS have been successfully implemented in areas like coastal protection, water treatment, and urban greening. However, electricity networks present distinct characteristics—such as linear infrastructure, elevation, and strict safety standards—that require novel adaptations of these approaches. Addressing these unique challenges presents exciting opportunities for innovation.

During the event, we’ll delve into:

  • Insights from the Discovery phase, including the development of the Nature4Networks Catalogue, which outlines theoretical NbS approaches for energy networks.
  • The Alpha phase roadmap, advancing four use cases: Linear Woodlands, SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems), Bioswales for Transformer Bunding, and Thorny Planting. These are being refined for practical application, with a focus on cost-effectiveness, safety standards, and scalability.
  • Plans to enhance the technical readiness of NbS, ensuring they meet engineering and regulatory requirements and are ready for testing in the Beta phase.

This event will also feature key findings from stakeholder engagement and outline how NbS metrics will shape future investment strategies and regulatory frameworks.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about groundbreaking solutions that blend environmental innovation with energy network resilience.
