SSEN - Demand Diversification Services – Simulation Workshop

06 March 2024 — 09:30 - 16:30

06 March 2024 — 09:30 - 16:30
Status: Ended

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are running a Simulation Workshop with a variety of stakeholders to inform the design of how Demand Diversification Services could be introduced to provide enduring flexibility in the LV network.

If Demand Diversification is new to you…

SSEN are investigating how we can remove areas from the Load Managed Area (LMA) notice by introducing flexibility services into congested parts of the network. In effect, using flexibility to reduce peak demand and enable the related LMA to be removed without having to reinforce the network. At the same time, we are looking to the future and preparing to connect large volumes of Low Carbon Technologies without having to reinforce the whole network.

The purpose of the workshop is to:

  • To identify unintended consequences
  • To gather your feedback
  • To bring everyone on the “voyage of discovery” and give us a different perspective.
  • To inform and improve the design of Demand Diversification Services

How will the workshop work?

  • An in-person all-day workshop (no remote participation will be possible due to the interactive nature of the workshop).
  • Everyone will be placed in teams and asked to manage a variety of schedulable loads, while dealing with changing wholesale and flex prices
  • The teams will be given various scenarios to react to, such as
  1. small network vs. a larger network
  2. being a dominant market player vs. a balanced market participant
  • Two flexibility models will be considered - Allocated Capacity and Dynamic Congestion Response.
  • Plenty of time will be scheduled for discussion and feedback.
