SSEN will publish our long-term flexibility product roadmap in February 2024. This webinar is an opportunity to hear some of our initial thinking on areas we will be developing further to ensure we have the right products and services to meet our network needs. An area of particular focus for us has been how we evolve our use of Load Managed Areas and if we can successfully use trials in this space to develop a new approach to LV flexibility.

The background on Load Managed Areas

SSEN has committed to transforming Load Managed Areas (LMAs) during RIIO-ED2 and ED3. LMAs have successfully allowed us to manage our network and support the use of alternative heating technologies, such as overnight energy storage heaters. The increase in Low Carbon Technologies, the development of flexibility markets, and the retirement of some technology means we need to develop on the success of LMAs and apply this in a new way – fit for a low-carbon future. 

We identified the potential of Demand Diversification Services to support or replace some of the existing LMAs and ran an initial workshop in June 2023.  This webinar will explore some of the thinking behind demand diversification and outline the next steps we will be taking to progress this idea further.
