At SSEN Distribution, we’re setting a long-term vision of how to deliver decarbonisation and economic growth. An important step towards this will be the forthcoming ED3 price control period, running from 2028 – 2033. What’s done and delivered in this five-year period will form a core part of SSEN’s long-term plans to support economic growth and decarbonisation through a transformation of electricity Distribution networks.

As part of our preparations for this critical period, we’re publishing an ED3 emerging thinking document titled ‘Empowering Communities, Enabling Growth’ which captures our ambition to deliver the most efficient energy transition at Distribution.

It proposes three initial priorities for ED3 (below), considers the principle disruptive trends that are already impacting us and our customers, and gives an overview of our current workstreams with a view to articulating our early plans and ambitions for ED3.

  1. to drive economic growth and enrich the communities & environments in which we work;
  2. to deliver a digitally enabled network that meets diverse customer and system energy needs; and
  3. to achieve business and network resilience in the face of growing challenges so that we can efficiently deliver our plans

However, we’re not planning in isolation and we're committed to our ED3 plan being stakeholder-led. We’d like to invite you to a webinar which will launch Empowering Communities, Enabling Growth – and marks the beginning of the conversation with you, our customers and stakeholders, regarding our future plans for ED3.
