SSEN Nature4Networks: Alpha Phase Show & Tell

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Nature4Networks (N4N) Show & Tell session, where we’ll be sharing key insights from the Alpha phase of the project.

Building on the work completed during Discovery, the Alpha phase has taken a deeper dive into the practicalities of deploying Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across the electricity network. We’ve tested and refined four use cases and explored how these alternatives can offer operational, environmental, and social value alongside or instead of traditional engineering solutions:

• Use of Linear Woodland as an alternative to undergrounding of electricity networks
• Sustainable Drainage Systems as flood protection
• Bioswales for transformer oil capture
• Thorny Planting for wooden pole protection.
   

This session will cover:

• Technical progress across the four NbS use cases
• Results from our cost-benefit analysis and investment modelling
• Feedback from stakeholders including landowners, regulators, and utilities
• Early thinking on how we build delivery and funding models in Beta
   

We’ll also share lessons learned around regulation, design and performance standards, and market readiness, and outline how these are shaping the next stage of the project.
