Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) and Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) are pleased to announce a successful collaboration under the T.E.F initiative in jointly presenting complementary learning from trials of procured DSO flexibility services with real flexibility providers on the distribution networks.

The interest in flexibility services grows and demand-side flexibility is becoming increasingly considered as a solution for resolving constraints at the ESO and DSO level. However, the value paid for flexibility is impacted by the accuracy and suitability of baselining methods – methods for deducing the counterfactual to measure how much flexibility has been delivered under contracted flexibility services.

Two flagship Network Innovation Competition projects TRANSITION, led by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, and FUSION, led by Scottish Power Energy Networks, have been trialling two approaches for enabling flexibility marketplace to procure flexibility services. Both projects have procured DSO flexibility services with real flexibility providers on the distribution networks.

Join the project teams for a webinar on practical experiences on baselining flexibility on 25th April 10:00 to 11:45 BST to hear from representatives of project partners from project TRANSITION (Nisha Doshi, SSEN, Genghao Tien, SSEN), Project LEO (Scot Wheeler, University of Oxford) and project FUSION (Jack Thomas & Aurora Sáez Armenteros, DNV).

On this webinar, Project TRANSITION and Project FUSION will share the learning on baselining methods and approaches to validating delivered flexibility, specifically:

  • What type of flexibility has participated in trials?
  • What baselining methods were used to validate delivered flexibility?
  • How accuracy of the baselining methods affected the settlement value for different DER types?

Webinar will present a set of recommendations on baselining practices developed in collaboration between TRANSITION and FUSION to share with practitioners, flexibility buyers, flexibility sellers, aggregators and policy makers.

To gauge the experience of the participants with the baselining methods and value of recommendations, we will conduct an anonymous survey throughout the webinar.
